"Special Roast" Dong Ding Traditional


Our good friend was up on Dong Ding with the Su family and went on a search for an oolong with big, bold body. This tea is the result of that search. It was harvested from a different garden than the Dong Ding Traditional A, and has a slightly different profile, although it is still from Dong Ding mountain, and follows the same processing procedure to make an old fashioned, healthy and natural tea. Our friends, the farmers Mr and Mrs Su have exacting requirements for any tea that they choose to roast, including the level of oxidation and use of sustainable farming practices.


 Mrs Su roasted this batch to a deeper level than our Traditional A, with the intention of bringing forward a rich fruity aroma and thick, viscous mouthfeel. As I said, the base tea was chosen specifically because it could handle a more substantial roast. Compared to the mineral, airy feel of the Traditional A, this one is more solid and muscular with rich fruit tones and excellent composition. Full throaty aftertaste and warming broth. 

This tea is ready to drink now, and is well suited to long term aging. We’re really looking forward to see how it tastes in May of this year. But for another two, five, even ten years or longer we predict it will keep developing complexity. Best stored in our vacuum sealed 150 gram bags. For larger sizes please inquire over email.
