Dong Ding Red Oolong

A 'Red Oolong' is similar to rolled Taiwanese black teas (like Alishan Black) or Hong Shui oolong, in that it is rolled tightly into little balls and oxidized until the notes reach deep into the baritone range of oolong; dark fruit and caramel. This tea was grown in Dong Ding.

Dry leaves have a powerful caramelized grain sweetness. Broth brews a deep golden-red color, and has a bold scent of dark, mature fruit and soy sauce. Broth texture is smooth and comforting.

The tea was roasted just before being sent to us. There is a slight roasty aroma in the taste, but it is not overpowering. We asked the farmer to do this to bring out the fruit notes and gives the tea focus. I'm looking forward how the tea develops and ages.
